Overcoming Insomnia
Summary
Insomnia is characterized by an inability to get to sleep on retiring, or get back to sleep upon waking during the night. Chronic insomnia can be a debilitating condition and can be associated with a number of physical and mental health issues such as those related to stress.
Signs and Symptoms
- inability to fall asleep at night
- wakens during the night and can't get back to sleep
- disturbed daytime function
Possible Causes Or Contributing Factors
- hypoglycaemia
- anxiety
- depression
- excessive fatigue
- poor adrenal function - increased cortisone
- working before bed time
- electromagnetic influences - too much TV, computer work before bed
- inability to relax and switch off
