Overcoming Insomnia


Summary

Insomnia is characterized by an inability to get to sleep on retiring, or get back to sleep upon waking during the night. Chronic insomnia can be a debilitating condition and can be associated with a number of physical and mental health issues such as those related to stress.

Signs and Symptoms

  • inability to fall asleep at night
  • wakens during the night and can't get back to sleep
  • disturbed daytime function

Possible Causes Or Contributing Factors

  1. hypoglycaemia
  2. anxiety
  3. depression
  4. excessive fatigue
  5. poor adrenal function - increased cortisone
  6. working before bed time
  7. electromagnetic influences - too much TV, computer work before bed
  8. inability to relax and switch off
